SpnyEricsson Content Problems

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

On the Ericsson homepage, you can create the My Content collection of everything you find you like as I’m sure many of you are aware. My problem is, I’ve downloaded the WAP settings onto my phone, but when I go to the page http://www.sonyericsson.com/fun as it says in the download instructions, the page turns up as “The requested page cannot be displayed”.
If anyone else has had this problem, do you know if there’s a way to fix it beyond the WAP settings I’ve installed that seem to have no effect? Sony’s webpage is no help.
Also, is anyone else getting this error? Is the server just down? :/

EDIT: My phone is a W850i

Step by step www.gmail.com

1. On your PC: Log in to gmail.
2. Select “Settings”
3. Select “Forwarding and POP”
4. Change “POP Download” to “Enable POP for all mail”.

You should now be able to both send and receive email from your phone.
Notes

Gmail also supports outgoing mail over SSL on port 465

Instead of browsing to the certificates, you may download them onto your PC and send them to the phone via bluetooth.

After a message is completely downloaded with POP, the Gmail server automatically hides it from the POP inbox. The message is not deleted, but will appear to be removed the next time you update your inbox via POP. This feature does not work well together with automatic polling (check interval). A possible workaround is to disable automatic download by setting the download setting to “Headers only” / “Subjects only”. Another possibility is to set the download size limit to very small (1-2kb). With this setting, most messages will be partially downloaded. Since the server only hides messages once they are completely downloaded, this will cause them to remain in the POP inbox.

Note if you move the certificates using USB they don’t work.
I had to send them via bluetooth from my PC to my phone.

enjoy!

Location Based Services

If you are interested in location, you might want to have a look at http://mobile.whereis.com on your mobile browser. It is an Australian mapping & LBS site. The automatic location detection is only for customers of the Australian carrier Telstra, but you can get an idea of how it works. Try Whereis Nearby (business finder) or Whereis everyone (people finder).

Google maps is also a great mapping & LBS app - download it here on your mobile browser http://www.google.com.au/gmm

(DISCLAIMER: I used to work for Sensis, who own Whereis, but i don’t anymore)

Mobile sites

I’m completely addicted to the mobile web (Facebook and Digital Spy are my current 2 faves).

I work for Astraware.com and we make games for Windows Mobile and Palm OS smartphones and handhelds. I’ve been into PDAs and Smartphones since about 1997 (started with a Psion 3c). I bought the Psion infrared modem and surfed the web using my cellphone and Psion to begin with. I got my first convergent smartphone about 3 years ago and I’ve been through about 8 or 9 phones since then. I’m a terrible upgrade-aholic, most recently I’ve bought myself the Samsung SGH i600 and I’m loving the 3G and HSDPA speeds for various sites.

Quite a few of the sites I work with have mobile versions including MoDaCo, Smartphone Thoughts, and our own site, which allows users to download and buy games direct to their devices. What is particularly interesting is that we’re even starting to get customers that are buying games who don’t own or have access to a PC for syncing, so their entire connection to the net is mobile.
