OpenMoko
OpenMoko is something I’ve been particularly excited about since I first heard about the project. I’ve seen the phone in action, it is very raw from the user experience perspective, but what excites me most about FIC’s venture into mobile phones is not the neo1973 per say, rather, its how Sean Moss-Pultz and the rest of the OpenMoko crew intend to do with the phone - turn it into a platform and eventually create an ecology around that platform that others can play in. There’s a good presentation about this from a few months ago:

Very interesting presentation - thanks for the link, Victor.
I wonder if OpenMoko is going be made available on ‘OpenMoko’ branded handsets, or similar (kind-of like Apple, thereby maintaining quality control over the process)? Lack of wider standards in the mobile industry go from hardware to software - different screen sizes, music formats, input methods, use of softkeys, etc. Developing an OS for the wider market in this environment is going to be a challenge if a non-targeted approach is taken, but maybe I’m wrong.
It’s going to be very interesting to see where this one goes, for sure
