iPhone the mobile phones answer to Paris Hilton
iPhone the mobile phones answer to Paris Hilton:
Everyone’s talking about the iPhone. That’s hardly surprising when Apple, with the help of its many loyal disciples, has created a level of hype never seen before in the mobile industry.
There’s no doubt Apple is a unique company. But over the years, it has developed a fan base that at times resembles a new religious movement. Many of those fans have the attitude that everything Apple creates is fantastic, and that if you can’t see this, or disagree, you’re either the devil himself or need serious psychological attention.

iPhone - the smartphone for non-geeks
Just to be contrary I wanted to put the other side of the argument across. I’ve used the iPhone whilst on hols and the UI is fantastic.
I’ve worked in mobiles for 6 years and this is the first phone with a truly intuitive user interface. The app’s deliver services that normal people want with great ease - Google maps launched without the need to open a WAP browser, a full browser that doesn’t screw up the formatting of the page, and so on.
Everyone is focusing on the iPhone as a music phone. The music app is a secondary feature! This is really a mini-Mac in your pocket - which partially explains the OTT criticism levelled at it from the anti-Apple brigade.
Yes it’s not perfect and a 3G version is necessary to bring it up to scratch, but it is the first device I’ve used (and I used to select and launch devices for two major networks) that really gives mobile data a useful purpose. I personally can’t wait to get my hands on one on a full-time basis.

I agree 100% that iPhone is the equivalent of Paris Hilton in the world of mobile phones:
- Everybody’s got an opinion about The Product, usually very strong one.
- The opinion is based on media’s projected image of The Product.
- Very few actually really know The Product in person.
